Abstract

An overview of literature and the work carried out by the authors in 3D metal printed microwave components is presented. Components produced include a conventional horn antenna, Sierpinski gasket antenna, waveguide antenna array, a monocone antenna with an integrated feed and horn antenna with inbuilt periodic structures. In addition, antenna with improved performance obtained through the gradual reduction in surface roughness is also demonstrated. This work highlights the promising future of 3D metal printing for the fabrication of microwave components, while also highlighting some of the restrictions or design requirements of this technique.
