Abstract

Risk is an important feature in the literature of Information Systems (IS). To date, this literature mainly identifies IS risk as a technologically derived problem. However, it is becoming apparent that technology driven solution to IS risk in isolation are no longer suitable. Therefore in order to develop new IS risk methodologies, researchers need to focus on the socio-technical aspects of IS risk. This paper reviews the current literature on IS risk and offers new insights into IS risk operationalised through a four stage STS model and CATWOE, the mnemonic associated with the Soft Systems Methodology.
